Week 7

Week 7 Meeting 05/17/17

Today, Group Six continues to work on the final report draft for Engineering Lab. During our time, we discussed about problems that need to be corrected, how the final report draft should be organized, and what relevant data must be included in the report. Prior to working on the report, group members Tony and Micah stretched out springs that Tony brought on Monday May 15th after the Group’s Monday meeting. The springs were originally ⅜” interior diameter into 1” interior diameter. Micah and Tony used a heat gun to heat up the strings they stretched over a metal pipe.

Due to another unforeseen series of events, Osman wasn’t able to join us for this meeting. However, during the group general meeting, Micah formatted the parts for 3D printing but was unable to access a printer during the lab hours. Tony decided to finish the sketch, as it will be invaluable when assembling the various parts.
Rasheem chronicled the blog post and worked on the final report draft. He wrote the sections concerning the problem and approach.

Micah and Tony will focus on printing out the pieces as soon as possible, and begin combining parts to form the bottom canopy.

Week 7 Meeting 05/15/17- Final Report (Draft) Brainstorm

Today Group 6 met up to write up the bulk of the Final Report Draft, and finalize the 3D printed objects. Unfortunately, group 6 was unable to 3D so far, so Micah and Tony plan on printing out the now compatible parts on Wednesday.

Rasheem and Tony focused on writing the introduction and discussion, while Osman started writing the approach section of the report. During this time, Micah updated the blog.

The group determined that they needed a weaker spring for the shaft itself, and chose a prime line D compression spring from Home Depot. Unfortunately, the shipment time for the spring would be approximately 10 days, so Tony plans to call a Home Depot near his house to see if he can purchase one on Tuesday.

Week 7 Meeting 05/13/17- Design Day- Open Lab (Innovation Studio)

On this day, Group Six ventured to the Innovation Studio lab during its open lab hours. While at the lab, Micah worked on editing the dimensions for the 3D pieces needed for our umbrella. Tony worked more on the attachments sketches for the umbrella. Rasheem redid measurements on the skeleton for the umbrella. Due to unforeseen events, Osman wasn’t able to join the remainder of the group.

By the end of the session, the parts were ready to be 3D printed, and Rasheem and Tony had measured and cut some lengths of fiberglass for the skeleton of the umbrella. Tony also carefully sketched a design for the canopy base and Micah finished up a sketch for the Handle.
