Week 5

Week 5 Meeting Wednesday-Thursday, May 2-3rd - Handle Designs

Because of the sunday trip, there was no meeting monday April 31st. Micah drew up a design for the handle and clasp, which he transformed into 3D models. Rasheem and Tony were able to bring all the parts to lab and get the measurements of the materials. Os assisted Micah in the 3D modelling, and found a place to store the materials.

The group discovered that the steel compression springs were very powerful; potentially too strong to be used in the umbrella. Because of this, the group decided to keep this spring for small clasp purposes, and salvage a bigger and weaker spring from one of the broken umbrellas the group owns.

Week 5 Meeting Sunday, April 30th- Group Trip to Home Depot

For this meeting group 6 headed to the closest hardware store they could find; a home depot in south philly. It took an hour to walk from center city, and another hour to look for supplies. Although the group found a few miscellaneous items for personal use, none of the parts or pieces the group wanted could be found.

One particular purchase was a liquid rubber coating dip that the group plans to use to make a rubber grip for the handle of the umbrella.

Because of this setback, the Oz and Micah decided to model and 3D print the specific pieces such as the handle clasp, elbow joint, and any other small parts required.
