Week 8

Week 8 Meeting 05/25/17- lab time

Today, Group 6 continued construction. Micah reshaped the latch with a sander, which due to its narrow measurements caused problems on the latch and clicker jammed in the handle. He also printed out the canopy base a second time, because the previous iteration was printed out at a bad angle, causing certain areas to have faulty layering or be frayed.

Osman and Tony began cutting the fiberglass rods that will be attached to the top canopy base holder. The last challenge in the construction phase to be surmounted will be cutting and sewing together the umbrella canopy.

Week 8 Meeting 05/22/2017

Today, Group Six continued to work on the daily group blog. All the group members brainstormed deliverables that should be met by the end of the week. We decided to devote this week’s lab as our construction day, as well as for the Open Innovation Studio hours this upcoming saturday.

Brainstorming for this week’s lab

At least one more piece needs to be made: an inversion of the canopy top printed out on saturday.

Week 8 Meeting 05/20/17---Open Lab hours

Oz printed out the handle piece, (center) shown below, before the rest of the group met up to print out the canopy bottom; a series of joints and hinges for the umbrella skeleton to pivot on. This piece was 3D printed as a single assembly, as putting together the many little joints would have been time consuming.

This piece will slide up and down the umbrella shaft so that the umbrella canopy can open and close based on the pivoting action of the skeleton.
